Religious Leadership
Rabbi Dr. Asher and Dr. Rachel R. Oser
Originally from Australia, Rabbi Oser was ordained at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary-Yeshiva University where he was a Wexner Graduate Fellow. Prior to ordination, he studied at Yeshivat Kol Torah in Jerusalem and Yeshivat Har Etzion in Gush Etzion. He holds a B.A. from the University of Sydney, an M.A. from McGill University and a PhD in Modern Jewish History from Yeshiva University. The title of his doctoral dissertation is 'When an
American Jew Produced: Judah David Eisenstein and the First Hebrew
Encyclopedia'. He has contributed articles to the Encyclopaedia Judaica.
Rabbi Oser was a rabbinic intern at Manhattan’s Congregation Adereth El, Stern College for Women and Park East Synagogue.
Rabbi Oser is married to Dr. Rachel R. Oser who, in addition to her career as a science educator, is active in the Jewish community. She organizes monthly classes for women, tutors adults in Judaism, meets with Bat Mitzvah girls, and is involved with the Hong Kong Mikvah.
The Osers are blessed with four children and are proud parents at the Carmel School.
Rabbi Aviel and Michal Javasky
Rabbi Javasky underwent rabbinic training at Ohr Torah Stone (Efrat) he received his rabbinical ordination from Israel’s Chief Rabbinate; he holds a B.A. in Education and Teaching from Herzog College (Alon Shvut) and did his military service with the Nahal Brigade. Michal holds a B.A. in Social Work from Ashkelon Academic College and did her military service at the Mikveh Israel Youth Village.
Rabbi Javasky is fluent in English and Hebrew, Michal’s mother tongues are French and Hebrew, and she is fluent in English.
We are happy to have Rabbi Aviel and Michal, together with their children Noam, Lavi, and Roni, as leaders of our community.
Bnei Akiva
We are blessed to have a partnership with Carmel School that allows us to host a branch of World Bnei Akiva. Our two Bnei Akiva emissaries are Moriya and Chana.
Channa did her national service in Ofakim with a focus on special education. Both Channa and Moriya are graduates of numerous Bnei Akiva Programs. Moriya did her national service as a museum and heritage guide based in Jerusalem. Moriya also has experience in the purchasing department of an agricultural company.
Lay Leadership
The management committee works with the rabbinical leadership to formulate and implement the vision and goals of OLS. The OLS Management Committee (ManCom) collaborates with the rabbinical leadership in formulating how the Synagogue can best serve its members and the Hong Kong Jewish community. The OLS Trust appoints members to the Management Committee to a term of three years.

Pauline Ngan - Office Manager
When you call our office, Pauline is the helpful voice you hear, she is the magic that keeps everything running. Pauline started with us in 1994 and we are grateful for her dedication and historical knowledge.
Francisco “Ruel” Cristobal - Generalist Extraordinaire
Ruel joined us in 2023 and quickly demonstrated his many talents. Whether he’s cooking us breakfast – best Shakshuka outside of Israel – or helping us set up for events, Ruel can be counted on to help us out in a most professional manner.
